Worldwide ICCA Database 

As part of the regional ICCA reviews and grassroots discussions carried out around the world, detailed information has been generated concerning location, history, values and resources of individual ICCAs accross the world. In December 2009, 140 entries were already avaialble in this database.

Due to limitations in time and funds, however, only for some of these entries one can safely consider that the Prior and Informed Consent (PIC) of the concerned communites has been obtianed for wide access to the collected and compiled information. Therefore, only such ICCAs are listed below for which explicit consent was given.  For many of htem, in fact, related information was already available in published literature elsewhere.

As the wordwide assessment of ICCAs progresses, and as UNEP WCMC is developing a dedicated Registry connected with the World Database of Proteced Areas, a more standarized process for PIC is under development.  Further visits/contacts to the concerned communities will allow to expand this database.
